HOW DO WE LIVE WITH MEANING
AND PURPOSE?
When the Torah was revealed on Mount Sinai, the Divine principles of oneness and human righteousness were reintroduced to the world, offering a way of life that allows all humanity to reach their full potential.
Overflowing with thought-provoking insights, Divine Guidance, and practical exercises, Seven Principles is a manual on leading a life of Purpose and Joy.
Reading The Seven Principles is inviting the Creator to be your personal guide through the winding paths of life.
The Seven Principles
1) No Idolatry
Refrain from worshiping any form, limitation, power, concept, or idol.
Rather, do the opposite: rely fully on the One Source of Life, your loving and intimately caring Creator. Through this, we can become the co-creator of our own life, allowing us to live without fear and with courage.
“Inner freedom is based on a positive belief in ourselves, rooted in knowing the Creator is Good.”
2) No Blasphemy
Refrain from ‘cursing’ the Source of Life.
Rather, do the opposite: ‘bless’ the Divine through expressions of gratitude in thought, speech, and action - and pray to Him. Words matter; the words we choose will eventually guide our actions and behaviors.
“Choosing our responses is our greatest blessing and our greatest responsibility.”
3) No Murder
Refrain from killing.
Whenever possible and appropriate, enhance the lives of your fellow human beings. We need to find our shared humanity, locating and revealing the Divine Image in everyone around us.
“True Power is not threatened; rather, it celebrates the other for their own unique expression of the Divine Image.”
4) No Illicit Relations
Refrain from engaging in unhealthy relationships.
Respect the sanctity of human relationships and promote a culture of noble love and dignity. Celebrate and nurture family life, as it is the bedrock of our society and our future. Peace, wholeness, and unity in the home preserve the unity and wholeness of the Divine Name itself.
“Peace in the home creates peace throughout all worlds.”
5) No Stealing
Refrain from taking what is not yours.
Live a life of giving and be content with what you have. Our possessions are creations that we are given to look after in this world for the sake of the Creator.
“Am I the master of my objects or are they my masters?”
6) Do not eat the limb of a living animal
Show appropriate compassion to all creatures and minimize their pain. As the ‘crown of creation’, we human beings have responsibility towards the welfare of all Creation, including animals and other forms of life.
“Our Tikun/soul perfection and challenge lies in loving our own human-ness, extending that kindness to other humans, and then to animals.”
7) Establish systems of justice
Help to establish or uphold systems of authentic justice and charity; help others act fairly and generously. Injustice in the world is our problem and we are responsible to ensure that justice and righteousness prevail and that there are unbiased judicial systems.
“The greatest gift we can give ourselves is to give to others.”

The Power of Joy
Joy, while not a principle in itself, is the root and essence of all of them. Joy is the fuel that empowers you to perform good deeds and refrain from violating your conscience. In a state of observing all Seven Principles, we know our purpose, our mission, and what we need to do in this world. The more we live with this purposeful awareness, the more joy we experience in our lives.
